Purpose of Establishment

Yeoju Museum

The Yeoju Museum established to collect, store, exhibit historical materials and cultural, artistic, historical relics in Yeoju.
It also aims to study and research folk history and to present relevant materials for citizen to aware the history.

  • September 22, 1993
    • Adoption of an agenda to build a folk history museum of Yeoju at the 21st Yeoju Office Meeting.
  • January 4, 1994
    • Establishment of a committee to build a folk history museum
  • January 28, 1994
    • Holding of a meeting by committee to build a folk history museum
    • Among four plans to build a folk museum, Silleuk-sa Temple Riverside Tourist Site was chosen to build the museum.
  • January 1995 to December 1996
    • Construction :1 515 square-meter building (total floor space 929㎡)
    • 1 basement floor, 2 ground floors, and 2 exhibition rooms (332.64㎡), storage (88.24㎡), audio-visual room (83.60㎡), and office (83.60㎡)
  • March 1996 to December 1997
    • Pushing ahead with collecting artifacts
  • May 9, 1997
    • Opening of the Yeoju Folk History Museum
  • August 29, 1997
    • Establishment of an Ordinance and Operation of the Yeoju Folk History Museum
  • October 9, 2000
    • The Yeoju Folk History Museum is registered as a public museum by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (No. 156)
  • February 7, 2007
    • Registered at the Korean Museum Association (membership number: 2007-8)
  • June 2009 to March 2010
    • Expanded the electric room
    • Total floor area 1,349.06㎡ one basement floor, three ground floors,four exhibition rooms (638.16㎡), storage 102.69㎡), audio-visual room (91.74㎡), and office (185.43㎡)
  • April 24, 2010
    • Expanded the Yeoju Folk History Museum
  • July 6, 2010
    • Changed its registration to Type 1 museum (specialized), changed the name to 'Yeoju Museum
  • July 14, 2016
    • Opening of the Yeoma-kwan Building
